Question: What is a reverence?
Answer: At the end of a ballet class, ballet dancers perform a formal bow or curtsy known as a reverence. Many dancers think of the reverence as a way to show respect for their teacher and to thank them for teaching them during the class. The reverence may also be dedicated to the audience or pianist of the class.

In most balet classes, it is customary to applaud after the final bow or curtsy of the reverence. Sometimes the ballet instructor performs the reverence with the class, as a thank you to the students.
