What is country line dance?

By Treva Bedinghaus, About.com

Question: What is country line dance?
Answer: Country line dance is a popular style of dance in which a group of people performs a sequence of steps in unison while facing each other in rows. Line dancers usually form a series of rows in the middle of the dance floor. Country line dance incorporates many common dance moves into several different combinations. Many of the combinations used in one dance are used in others, so once you learn a particular line dance, others may be easier to learn. Although most of the moves of a line dance are performed with the feet, hand gestures are sometimes incorporated as well. While the feet are doing most of the work, dancers typically hold the body in an upright, relaxed position. Women tend to line dance while holding their hands in fists at waist level, while men often prefer to line dance with their hands in their pockets or resting in their belts.

Many people enjoy the relaxed nature of country line dance. Because dancers move independently to the music, the sometimes stressful act of finding a partner does not exist. Line dancers are able to relax and enjoy themselves, along with a selection of fun, upbeat music.
