How To Slow Dance With Your Valentine

By Treva Bedinghaus, About.com

Nothing is more romantic than a slow dance with your valentine. But what if you have two left feet? Relax...the following steps will give you both enough confidence to dance the night away.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: A few minutes...longer if you're lucky.

Here's How:

  1. Start the music.
Choose a romantic love song. Have a few songs ready, in case the dancing mood lingers.

  2. Face your partner.
Stand close to each other, with your toes close to touching.

  3. Hold each other closely.
The man should place his right hand either on his partner's left hip or her lower back, and his left hand should gently hold her right hand at shoulder level. The woman should place her left arm on her partner's right shoulder.

  4. Sway to the music.
The man should lead his partner gently back and forth (or left to right) with the beat of the music. The feet should barely leave the the floor, as the bodyweight is transferred between both feet.

  5. Move in a circle.
As an option, the man should gently guide his partner in a small circle around the floor.

  6. Gaze into each other's eyes.
Look deep into the eyes of your partner. Whisper softly or allow your eyes (or lips) to do the talking.

  7. Finish the dance.
Dance until the song comes to an end. Snuggle up closer to your partner for a tight hug to "finish" the dance.

Tips:

  1. Try not to step on your partner's toes.
  2. Stay on beat with the music.
  3. Relax and enjoy the closeness.

What You Need:

  • Your valentine.
  • A few romantic songs.
